Andreas Caminada of Graubünden is known as one of the best among Swiss chefs and he runs Schauenstein Restaurant, which is housed in one of many old castles in the Domleschg Valley, is where Caminada has been working since 2003, and it has since ceased to be a "well-kept secret" to the sadness of the locals. It now takes months to get a reservation!
Chef Andreas Caminada is inarguably one of today's best chefs. Some people would say that he is the best chef in the land of engineering perfection - Switzerland. To be the best in Switzerland is not easy - however, the claim is definitely not far from the truth. After all, he is the Chef of Schauenstein, the 67th best restaurant in the world according to El Pellegrino World's 100 Best Restaurants 2009 list and in 2011 has kept it in the top 25. Over the years, people have trooped in and out of this Swiss restaurant, amazed at the culinary talents of Chef Caminada.
However, Schloss Schauenstein with only 26 covers is one of the smallest restaurants in the top 50 best Restaurant list and since being awarded three Michelin stars in November 2010, is even harder to get into than previous years. Its chef, Andreas Caminada, is a serious talent who eschews the whizz-bang style of cuisine. Instead, he prefers to tease out the extraordinary potential of simple ingredients to create masterpieces of craft, taste, colour and precision.
This restaurant is located in a castle in Domleschg Valley. This is where he has been working for the last seven year, and it is the restaurant's menu that showcases his incredible cooking skills. This dining establishment started as a well-kept secret of this Swiss region. Over the years, it has become the culinary destination for all passionate about food, enthusiasts and critics, people who are eager to discover Swiss cooking at it’s finest. Indeed, the culinary skills of Chef Caminada had brought the world's attention to his restaurant.
To reach the standards set by the world-class restaurant, it is hard to secure a table reservation at Schauenstein. It will take you many months before you can get a reservation. So, if you are planning to visit Switzerland in the next six months, you should definitely get a reservation today.
Chef Andreas Caminada was first noticed in the world of culinary perfection in 2005 when he was awarded the "Discovery of the Year" Award by Gault Millau. Since then he received countless accolades from food magazines and food critics all over the world. He received the "Rising Star of the Year 2007" Award. He received the "Chef of the Year" award the following year. He has achieved so much at a young age. He is the youngest chef to have been honoured with the Chef of the Year award by Gault Millau. That is not an easy feat, but he truly deserves the great honour. Last year, he received 18 out of 24 points for his restaurant.
Andreas is extremely inventive and adventurous, it is common to find Chef Andreas Caminada bent over ingredients, intent on creating innovative dishes. This is just as well as one would expect from a young chef. He is driven and passionate and yet bold with his craft. He knows when to take risks and intuitively knows when to carve his enthusiasm. He has the ability to know how to make sure that he won't go overboard. He ensures that all his creations would still come out harmonious and delicious. It is not surprising that he is now one of the world's best chefs.
